Fire Service Recruitment Campaign

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are on the lookout for a number of potential local ‘heroes’ who would be interested in stepping forward and training as on-call firefighters.

On-call or retained firefighters receive the same standard of training as wholetime firefighters, to enable them to attend incidents as part of an operational team on an on-call basis when required.

“Our retained firefighters do an absolutely fantastic job in keeping their local fire engines readily available to attend incidents whenever they are needed,” said Station Manager Damien West, who is leading on the recruitment campaign.

The nine fire stations that are actively seeking new recruits are: Worksop, Collingham, Southwell, Eastwood, Misterton, Tuxford, Ashfield, Bingham and Retford.

Applicants will need to live within approximately five minutes (or four miles) of the station they are applying to, have a good level of fitness and be able to commit to a minimum number of hours per week to be on call.

As part of the on-call recruitment campaign a number of open events have been organised at stations across the county where potential new recruits can find out more about the role.

Further ‘Firefighter for a day’ events will take place at the NFRS Service Development Centre in Ollerton on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July.

The first event, on the Saturday, will be a positive action day for women only and aims to help those interested in applying to find out more.

The second open day, on the Sunday, is open to all and will allow anybody interested in applying to find out more about the job and the tests applicants will be required to pass before being signed up, as well as giving them a go.
