A great time was had by all at the inaugural Women’s and Girls’ Festival of Cricket organised by Farnsfield Cricket Club in conjunction with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
The event held on Coronation Sunday 7th May at their Station Lane ground was pleasingly well attended by both young and old keen to have a go at playing cricket.
The International Umpire Sue Redfern MBE umpired the first match between Blyth CC and Welbeck CC and was there to support the players during the day. Professional Cricket Players with The Blaze, Kathryn Bryce and Georgie Boyce, also attended the event and gave welcome and very useful advice to the players practising in the nets. All three special guests were keen to support the aim of the event to inspire women and girls to take up the game of cricket.
The women’s and girls’ section was formed less than a year ago and are keen for more to join the club. Women’s training takes place at the club on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings and there is girls only training for under elevens on a Friday evening.
Farnsfield Cricket Club provide cricket to all ages and all abilities ranging from Kwik Cricket for the very youngest, through age group hardball cricket onto adult cricket.
They currently run three senior teams in The Bassetlaw League alongside which they have a Sunday team, a Sunday Development team and now a Women’s team.
The club would welcome anyone interested in joining be it as a player, a scorer, official or a supporter. Please contact enquiries@ farnsfieldcricketclub.co.uk for further information.
