Farnsfield Tennis Club Finals

Farnsfield Tennis Club held their annual Knockout Finals event in September.

Winners of the event were as follows: Mens Singles-Stuart Walker; Mens Doubles-Richard and Adam Dickens; Ladies Singles –Sarah Atkinson; Ladies Doubles- Sarah Atkinson and Pat Newman; Mixed Doubles-Richard Dickens and Margot Knight. The Boys under 18 Singles winner was Joshua Selby Smith.

As part of the Finals Day arrangements a seat was presented by the McCulloch family who had spent many happy years as members of the Tennis Club. The family all enjoyed playing but the youngest sister Sue made a career through tennis and has always been grateful to the club where she first picked up a racket. Sue progressed to become a Notts Champion and also played for Great Britain in different age groups. She made a point of being present at the presentation from the USA where she now lives and coaches.

Iain McCulloch a Past President of the Club spoke of the way in which the club had thrived since the 1960s when they only had two courts and shared a rather rickety clubhouse with the Bowling Club. They now have a thriving membership with teams in various divisions of the Notts Tennis Leagues and are able to play all the year round under their floodlights.

He thanked the members for inviting he and his family to be present and wished the Club well for the future.
