Entrepreneur donates book profits to IASTI Newark

Newark entrepreneur Charles Lawrence is giving all of the profits from his new book to the International Air & Space Institute (IASTI) in Newark.

‘Somebody Said it Couldn’t be Done – But I Did it’ is an autobiographical account of Charles Lawrence’s rise from landscaping gardens to running a multinational group of companies.

Having started as a group of companies providing artificial surfaces for sports pitches and childrens’ play areas, The Charles Lawrence Group helped to revolutionise rubber recycling, producing safe and durable surfaces using recycled lorry tyres.

A Newark resident, Charles Lawrence has pledged to donate all proceeds from the book to IASTI Newark: A state-of-the-art training institute for the aviation industry which welcomed its first students last year.

Charles Lawrence said: “I wanted to write the story of how I did it to inspire other would-be entrepreneurs to give it a go. I’ve been honest about the decisions I have taken – both right and wrong – and the personal cost that comes with building a large business.”

The book was launched at a reception at Newark College, where the IASTI is currently based, and all proceeds from will contribute to flight, engineering and groundcrew training for young people who want to work in aviation.

IASTI Director Tom Marsden said: “This is an amazingly generous gesture by Mr Lawrence and we are hugely grateful.”
