England international Peter Mills coaches at Badminton Club

Peter Mills, Southwell’s international Mens Doubles badminton star came back to his roots recently and spent four hours one Saturday morning coaching the current crop of junior members at Southwell Junior Badminton club.

As he is so busy travelling the world these days, taking part in tournaments, Peter doesn’t get to visit us as often as he used to, and many of our newer members hadn’t met him before. It was obvious his speed of movement and power, as well as the deception he uses in the game were an eye-opener to many. Hopefully the juniors will not forget what he taught them. Peter brought his two Commonwealth Games medals from last summer with him. Never having been so close to them before, I have to say they were beautifully designed and crafted, and well won!

Club league matches continue, with rather mixed results this season, and unfortunately we don’t look as if we will repeat our league successes of the past 4 seasons, although we have begun to win some matches at the Year 5/6 age group at last.

The club currently has over 70 members and can only accept new members from School years 3 – 6 and older juniors who are experienced and approaching match standard. If you qualify, please call Alex Fenton on 01949 20417 to discuss.
