Design Trends for 2018

There are a few strong streams of trends in fabrics and wallpapers going on at the moment, which is great for us, as every job is different.

Greys remain strong, the Little Greene Paint Company has just launched its second collection of grey paints, in association with the National Trust and unofficially known as the 50 shades of grey collections.

For grey to really work, a sumptuous fabric, opulent pieces of furniture or zingy accent colours as scatter cushions or contrasts on fabrics are useful, as are colourful paintings or statement glass ornaments – after all grey is grey and it needs a little help.

There is a strong movement towards mid century design in fabrics and wallpapers with lots of colour, oranges, limes and blues dominating. Scion fabrics are leading the way with several strong collections and designs that bring to life that stylised 50s, 60s and 70s feel. So clean up your old Ercol, G Plan and Danish furniture as it is now very cool and commanding high prices!

Woollen fabric sales remain strong with checks from Abraham Moon and others in reds and browns still being the favourite, creating a warm homely feel. But wools are truly a fabric for all seasons in a combination of greys to create a statement chair or stool, or a colourful large check on a mid century chair or couch.

There is a burst of colour on the way with the ever popular Harlequin’s new spring collection Zapara, which should be fun. Over the last year we have had a number of more mature clients looking to bring a fresh, contemporary look into their homes. With a little help from us and the confidence that maturity brings, we have created some spectacular schemes.
