The awful wet weather on Bank Holiday Monday caused the cancellation of the 6-a-side cricket tournament in aid of Cancer Research UK being held at Southwell Cricket Club.
Despite the conditions, all competing teams and officials turned up and the pavilion was packed with disappointed but understanding folk when the decision to cancel was made at 1.30pm. However, in true bulldog spirit the club soldiered on and at the end of the day £1,240 was made for the charity, a tremendous effort considering the conditions.
In no particular order the Organiser’s would wish to sincerely thank the following for their unselfish hard work and generousity in all aspects of this event.
Sponsors: Gascoines Estate Agents, A J Beckett, Minster Giftware, J R Pitchford (Butchers), Gadsby’s Bakery, Gill & Taylor and Southwell Handicentre.
The Hosts: Tim Willson and all his team at Southwell Cricket Club
A special thank you to John McAndrew and his famous donkey – despite the conditions! The winner of the donkey dump and the £1,000 prize was Martin Lee of Southwell.
A thanks to Peter Moyes for attending the car park and last but by no means least, Dick Dennett – whose enthusiasm for the game never diminishes.
