Could You Be Bramley Young Chef 2015?

Every October, Southwell holds The Bramley Festival to celebrate the origins of the Bramley Apple in Southwell. This year the date of the festival is Saturday 24th October.
As part of the Notts Federation Women’s Institute Apple Day Competition, the search is on for The Young Bramley Chef of the Year. The competition comprises two age categories: (Juniors) 9-12 years; and (Secondary School) 13 to 18 years.

Juniors entrants must create a cold dessert recipe that includes Bramley Apples and the older participants are asked to create a Savoury Budget recipe that also includes Bramley apples.

Teresa Bovey, Home Economist and Food Demonstrator said: “The WI and I were impressed with last year’s sweet recipe entries and hope that raising the age limit to 18 and adding a savoury recipe to the competition will inspire even more young budding chefs to get cooking. Kenwood have kindly once again sponsored prizes for the winning children.”

The recipe can be created by one student or a group of students. The winning student/one student of the group will be invited to cook their recipe in Southwell Minster on Saturday 24th October, with Teresa Bovey at the Food Fair. The winner will receive a Kenwood Cheffette 5 speed food mixer with a stand as a prize.

Recipes must be sent to: Nottinghamshire Federation of Women’s Institutes, Trent Bridge House, Beastmarket Hill, Newark, Nottinghamshire NG24 1BN no later than Friday 9th October.
