Every summer, Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline helps different children from Belarus who live in the area that suffered from the nuclear disaster. The charity provides a respite from the continued strain of living in that environment. This year, the children will be visiting the local area from Saturday 28th July, returning home on Saturday 18th August.
The charity is looking for families that are willing to look after a child for one, two or three weeks during the summer. You will receive full support and will be given complete guidance before the children arrive and during their stay.
Robert Crampton, Chairman of the Newark & Sherwood Link of the charity said: “It is very satisfying to know that you have made a difference to that child’s life because it does even just for that short period. Just to put a smile on their face is rewarding.”
“All we ask of you is to house them and feed them and treat them as one of your family. Any clothes they may need are free from our charity shop. Looking after these children is no different than looking after your own children or grandchildren. They do not have special needs except needing fresh air and good food.”
All costs for the child’s journey are met by the charity and also any visits they go on will also be met by the charity and you and your family are included.
Local community groups including Southwell Fire Station, Southwell & District Lions and Notts County Sailing Club at Hoveringham are great supporters of this cause and give their time freely to help these youngsters.
Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline is a friendly informal group of all ages with one thing in common – a desire to make a difference to these children’s’ lives. If you believe you could help with this please contact Robert Crampton on 07815 473802 or robert.crampton@tiscali.co.uk. Robert, along with a female colleague will then arrange to visit you at home and talk in detail about the children.
If you are a member of a local community group Robert would also be more than happy to attend and give a talk and short video about the charity and its valuable work.
