We are a group of church bell ringers responsible for the ringing of the Minster bells for divine services, weddings, funerals and many other occasions when the bells may be required such as New Year’s Eve, St George’s Day, coronations and the like.
The Minster has a ring of twelve bells, unique in that they are hung anticlockwise something that attracts ringers from all over the country. Our ringers are of a mixed age group and most are local to the town. We also assist with ringing at many other churches in the Diocese.
We practice every Tuesday evening 7.30 – 9pm and welcome any newcomers. We would particularly welcome lapsed ringers or new to the area and encourage anyone willing to learn the art to come and try.
Bell ringing is an enjoyable pastime. It is not hard work once having climbed the 114 steps to the ringing chamber! It is mentally stimulating with an opportunity to enjoy a friendly atmosphere in pleasant comfortable surroundings amongst like- minded people.
