Bringing Literature to Life at Newark Book Festival

From the 13th to 15th July the Newark Book Festival programme will be bigger and more exciting than ever. With the chosen theme for 2018 being Literary Landscapes, the festival will be bringing books to life across the streets, cafes and venues of Newark. There is something for everyone!

For the Discerning Reader, Newark Town Hall will be hosting a wide range of author talks and signings where you will be able to meet fantastic new fiction writers and find out more about some of your old favourites.

Starting at 10am on Saturday 14th July, Meet me at the Museum: Anne Youngson and Helen Cullen, these two wonderful authors will be talking about their debut novels and the power of the written word. Then at 3pm, a special guest panel will be celebrating some of history’s most memorable writers, including Emily Brontë, Jane Austen and Lord Byron, in the Literary Landscapes event.  On Sunday 15th July, leading historical fiction writer, Elizabeth Chadwick will be talking and signing books at 3.15pm.

For the Thrill Seekers, take a trip to the dark side with three thrilling author panel events at Newark Town Hall. Hull Noir presents Landscapes in Crime, with authors Nick Quantrill, Joe Thomas, Cathi Unsworth and Ali Harper – Saturday 14th July 11.30am. Crime Thriller authors CJ Tudor (Nottingham) and Luca Veste will visit on Saturday 14th July 1.15pm. Talking about their latest books The Bone Keeper and The Chalk Man – CJ Tudor’s debut novel has even been recommended by Stephen King…attend if you dare!
Exploring Gothic Fiction with author of The Silent Companions, Laura Purcell, Sunday 15th July 11.45am.

For Non-Fiction Fans explore some of the best in local writing and legends with East Midlands Landscapes, Legends and Inspiration Sunday 15th July, 10am at Newark Town Hall. Featuring Derbyshire Crime author Roz Watkins, Robin Hood (Aka Ezekial Bone) and Mick Cox. Events at the National Civil War Centre, include talks from cricket writer Grahame Lloyd with Fifty Not Out: The Six Sixes and Nottinghamshire castles enthusiast, Archaeologist James Wright.

For the Kids at the National Civil War Centre, young readers can get inspired about reading with Little Red Reading Hood on the Sunday at 10.15am, where writer, Lucy Rowland and illustrator, Ben Mantle will be sharing their contemporary and fun take of the classic fairy tale.
