October saw the start of the annual Bookmark competition run by the Bramley Pips Nursery in collaboration with Bookwise, highlighting the importance of reading to children from an early age.
Open to all age groups from Southwell and the surrounding communities, entrants can take inspiration from their favourite book or create a bookmark of their own design. All entries must be received by Bramley Pips before Friday 30th October 2015 and the winning designs will be produced into bookmarks and distributed by the Southwell branch of Bookwise in time for Christmas.
The Design a Bookmark competition was created to inspire young people to think about their favourite books and to highlight to parents the importance of reading to children from an early age. Numerous studies have shown that reading to children from an early age helps to improve their speech and learning ability whilst also forming stronger relationships.
Aimee Henderson, Manager at Bramley Pips said: “The importance of reading to children should not be underestimated as it improves development from an early age. Bookwise is a fabulous charity providing an inexpensive method of enjoying book ownership.”
To enter simply print off a form from Bramley Pip’s website www.bramleypips.co.uk/bookmarks and send/deliver it back to the nursery.
Bookwise is a charity bookshop located on Queen Street in Southwell, with branches also in Newark & Hockley. The shops sell second hand books (many nearly new) in support of Music for Everyone.
