Bleasby C of E primary school hockey team has just finished the season on a high winning the ‘Sam White Schools Tournament’ hosted by Newark hockey club at the Magnus School.
This comes on the back of representing Nottinghamshire in the U11 boys Midlands regional finals in Cannock, where this little primary school, which has just 157 pupils, held its own against some of the biggest private schools in the region.
Throughout the season Bleasby have also maintained top position in the Newark District Schools League, playing against 13 other primary schools only losing 1 game, conceding only 3 goals and scoring 33.
The school has used the governments additional funding for primary school PE to pay for coaches from Newark Hockey Club and MT13 coaching to help develop the skills and abilities of the squad which has most certainly paid off!
The dedication and commitment of the squad has been superb, regularly attending training and matches. This was demonstrated by Charlie Davis who won the player of the Sam White tournament, an award given by all the coaches and officials to the most outstanding player.
Team Manager, Helen Davis said of the team, “They play with such a superb team attitude, passing the ball well and supporting each other. They have been a pleasure to coach and I am extremely proud of all of them. I hope they continue playing once they move on to The Minster.”
