Bleasby footballers make history

IN April, Bleasby Primary School’s Year 3/4 football team won the Newark and District Primary Schools Sports Association Annual Spring Football Tournament.

Fourteen teams took part in the event making this a fantastic achievement for such a young team. Led by Mr Ryan, the Bleasby team included Ralph (captain), Isaac, Indy, Teddy, Hunter, Daya, Charlie, Charlotte and Stanley.

Throughout the afternoon, the children played brilliantly as a team, encouraging one another both when things were going well and when matches became more challenging. They performed strongly in the early rounds, holding a clean sheet until the final game before the semi-finals, when the opposition managed to score in the last few seconds.

Despite this, the team showed great resilience, going on to win that match and then the semi-final. In the final, they faced Lowe’s Wong, who had held the trophy for the past two years. After Lowes Wong scored early, Bleasby showed real determination, equalizing and then going on to win the match 3 – 1 to bring the cup home for the first time in the tournament’s history! It is also the first time a small school has won the tournament for over a decade.

It was a fantastic display of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship, and all the children should be incredibly proud of themselves.
