A large number of members attended the October meeting eager to learn about the Southwell Museum.
Mr Peter Kent, Chairman of the Southwell Civic Society, spoke of the aims of that organisation and why it felt there was a need for a museum in the town.
Mrs Marilyn Varley spoke about the first exhibition held in the museum on Southwell Pubs which had been inspired by her because she was living in a former pub on Westgate and Mr Peter Kent explained the purposes of the second exhibition on Southwell Schools.
Mr David Measures, who resides in Westhorpe, showed a film about that area taken some 10 years ago and explained why the Civic Society had opposed a number of proposals for changes there. He also showed a number of slides of the Westhorpe exhibition for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
Mr Ron Arnfield presided and expressed thanks. Refreshments were served by Mrs Olive Olsen, Mrs Sue Brooksby and Mrs Olive McSloy.
The next meeting in Trebeck Hall at 8pm on Thursday 26th November is a talk on the Seasonal Aspects of Fashion Designing by Miss Sue Keen. New members and friends are always welcome.
