Featuring celebrated poetry stars, regional favourites and cutting-edge newcomers this year’s Inspire Poetry festival promises a plethora of poetry delights at venues around the county.
Taking place from Monday 23rd to Saturday 28th September, the two big names coming to Southwell are the acclaimed writer and performer Patience Agbabi on Friday 27th at 7.30pm and the extremely well-known and much-loved Wendy Cope who returns for Afternoon Tea on Saturday 28th at 3.30pm.
Also in Southwell there will be a writing workshop, a session on reading and appreciating poetry and some community-led events involving local writers.
Elsewhere, at Beeston, Mansfield, West Bridgford and Worksop libraries, there will be a great range of poetic styles, from the classic lyric poetry of Jacob Polley and Colette Bryce to the spoken word brilliance of younger poets such as Raymond Antrobus and Nafeesa Hamid, along with workshops, a screening of the Keats biopic Bright Star, an exhibition and a fun Poetry Takeover Day on the final Saturday.
Whether you’re already a poetry reader, writer, student or teacher, or a complete newcomer, join us this September to enjoy a week of wonderful words in the welcoming surroundings of your libraries.
Tickets can be booked in person at Southwell library or visit inspireculture.org.uk/poetry-festival or call Ask inspire: 01623 677 200
